Russia's growing influence in Venezuela and its interest in the Latin American region have generated a debate about the possible implications for Colombia's security and defense. This article analyzes the different ways in which Russian interests in Venezuela could affect Colombian security, including the increase in Russian military activity in the region, the proliferation of weapons, and support for illegal armed groups. To this end, a qualitative methodology was used through a review of secondary sources. The analysis allowed for reflection on four fundamental aspects: 1) International Relations and Geopolitics, 2) Russian Interests in Venezuela and Latin America, 3) Impacts on the Security and Defense of the Colombian State, and 4) Colombian Responses and Policies. The study concludes that Russia's interests in Venezuela represent a series of challenges for Colombia's security and defense, and the deep importance that the Colombian Government must give to the issue.
